This Friday, June 28, the third installment of the Annabelle saga opens under the name Annabelle Comes Home , which belongs to one of the largest horror franchises in cinema: The Conjuring . It all started in 2013 when James Wan decided to release this film of the same name with Ed and Lorraine Warren, demonologists, at the center of all the stories that followed.

Despite the fact that they are the basis of the universe of The Conjuring , which has brought more than six films, the possibilities grew with the presence of other elements of terror such as the Nun, a cursed entity from a distant and dark convent, and Annabelle , a possessed doll who has traveled from house to house and family to family, cursing everything in her presence.

We have been around for six years with several films that stand on their own, but are part of this universe . This one has been presented at various times but sometimes with the same characters. Here is the order you must follow to see Annabelle Comes Home :

The Nun

The Nun , directed by Corin Hardy, is set in the 1950s and stars Demián Bichir and Taissa Farmiga as Father Burke, a tormented man, and Irene, a novice who has doubts about her future, respectively. The Vatican assigns them an extremely important task: they must go to a monastery in Romania where strange events have happened, such as the suicide of one of the nuns, due to a demonic entity in the form of a nun.

Together, they must enter and solve the mystery around the paranormal events, but especially the origin of this cursed and powerful entity. The Nun premiered in mid-2018, and became the most successful franchise installment at the box office despite negative reviews. Thanks to the reception of the audiences, there was talk of a second installment, possibly with the same main characters, who would return to follow the step of the spirit or face new entities.

Annabelle: Creation

In 2017, Gary Dauberman wrote the script for the second Annabelle installment under the name Annabelle: Creation . This tape serves as a prequel to the events they featured in the first Annabelle installment. Annabelle: Creation is set in the 1940s and then jumps into the 50s, roughly the same years as the events of The Nun . However, due to the separation of events, La monja has been placed first .

In the film, directed by David F. Sandberg, we learn about Annabelle’s origin before she was a doll. She is presented to us as a girl who dies in a terrible accident, and whose spirit uses the body of a doll to return. When an orphan girl comes into contact with the spirit, bad things begin to happen to everyone who lives in the house that the girl Annabelle once was in.

Annabelle

In 2014, we were introduced to Annabelle with the story of Mia and John. Mia is a lover of old dolls and is pregnant with her first daughter. When she is in an advanced state, she is attacked by a psychotic woman who murders her parents and tries to kill Mia with her daughter; however, she survives and gives birth to a girl. When they move to try to forget all the traumas, one of their dolls appears out of nowhere, keeping it in the baby’s room.

Over time, Mia begins to realize that something bad is related to the doll, and when she tries to get rid of it, she can’t. And so, unfortunate and mysterious events begin to happen to Mia and her baby. Annabelle is set in the late 1960s, and represented the connection to the universe of The Conjuring , centered on the Warren marriage. Despite the box office sales, the movie didn’t get very good reviews, but it did present us with one of the biggest stages in the entire franchise.

The Conjuring

This 2013 James Wan film was the one that opened the universe that revolves around the Warrens and their work as demonologists. The story of The Conjuring begins in the early 70s with the Perron family, who after moving into an old house, a cursed entity begins to annoy them to the point of madness. Desperate, Carolyn Perron decides to seek the help of the Warrens, who are known to work on similar cases of exorcisms, possessions and more.

The Warrens move into the Perrons’ house to analyze the phenomena and ask the Church for formal permission to work. As they wait, things get complicated, and they discover that a woman accused of witchcraft centuries ago, cursed the house to everyone who enters, after murdering her son as a sacrifice and then committing suicide. The spirit of that woman enters Carolyn’s body until the Warrens manage to save and free her. Without a doubt, it is one of the best horror films of recent years, which despite appealing to a commercial audience, managed to stand out for its story and the way it was visually narrated.

Annabelle Comes Home

This film, due to be released this Friday the 28th, is the third installment of the doll trilogy, and in which a part of its history closes. Annabelle Comes Home stars the Warrens, who after several events manage to capture Annabelle and lock her in a blessed display case, which is found in the strange object room of the Warren’s house . Everything seems to be in order with the doll and its strength, until a young woman, curious to know what is in that room, unleashes again the power of Annabelle, who also has the ability to free the other spirits from the objects that are in the room.

Annabelle directly attacks Judy, the Warrens’ 10-year-old daughter, who appears to be the doll’s ideal victim. Ed and Lorraine must lock up the doll again, before she attracts all the negative spirits she has had contact with, and her power becomes uncontrollable. Annabelle Comes Home is set in the events close to those of The Conjuring , when we first met the doll.

The Curse of La Llorona

The curse of La Llorona  used one of the most important figures in Latin American folklore to tell a horror story that surprisingly belongs to the universe of El conjuro . The common denominator is the father Pérez, who appears in the Annabelle trilogy and returns to help Anna, a social worker, widowed with two children, who must investigate the death of two children with whom she had worked with her mother Patricia.

This woman, who is accused of killing them, warns Anna that it was not her, but a spirit known as «La Llorona», who goes in search of children lamenting the death of her own. This entity is related to the death of two children at the hands of their mother 300 years earlier, who in a fit of jealousy and madness, drowned them in a stream. Anna must save her children with the help of Santeria and other beliefs belonging to the Mexican and Latino culture. La curse de la Llorona is set in the mid-70s in the city of Los Angeles.

The Conjuring 2

At the end of the 70s, the Warrens are working on a case that leaves Lorraine very affected, as she faced visions that announced the death of her husband. On the other side, in England, a family faces supernatural events related, supposedly, to the spirit of an old man who does not want them to live in his house. However, when the Warrens take up the case, they discover that the old man’s spirit is yet another victim of a much larger and more powerful entity: Valak.

Valak is the spirit of The Nun , and he appears in other installments of the franchise. Lorraine knows that her husband is in danger in that house, and that he could die trying to save that family, but the duty of the demonologists forces them to help, ending the spirit of Valak.
